About The #HugLife Project:

The #HugLife Project and #SophisticatedRatchetHippieThugScholarLife
are movements created by a self-proclaimed #SRHTS to dismantle stereotypes and promote mental, emotional, physical, and spiritual growth.

The #HugLife Project aspires to provide a safe online space and community for sharing art, poetry, and other personal testimonies related to mental health in order to raise awareness and decrease taboos in underserved communities. Artistic storytelling in its many beautiful forms are strongly encouraged and welcomed! The #HugLife Project is inspired by the key beliefs that our liberation is bound together, and that there is boundless healing, empowerment, and liberation to be found in sharing our stories. The more we share stories and education, the more we increase understanding and connection. Our stories can literally save someone else's life. By using our artistic voices, we combat stigmas and raise the chances of others seeking and receiving the health services and care that they need. We're too magic for the stereotypes. We are the Change.

The Beginning of a

Masterpiece!

The goal is to heal and empower as many people as possible by combining the magically therapeutic powers of love, self-love, expressive arts, education, and wellness!

The #HugLife Project and #SophisticatedRatchetHippieThugScholarLife will be a part of the Founder's upcoming community development organization as well as youth/young adult-focused programs in her future wellness and artistic media agencies :)

What is a Thug Scholar, you ask? Particularly when you place the words "Sophisticated Ratchet Hippie" in front of it?
Thug Scholars:
We’re the go getters and the glow getters. We’re the ones who get passionately, positively upset about the suffering and injustices in the world, and channel that energy to transform our lives and the lives in our communities. We make it our duty to be the change we want to see by becoming the teachers and the lawyers and the healers and the writers and the artists. We are the Change.

What is a Thug Scholar?

#SophisticatedRatchetHippieThugScholarLife is built upon the power in knowing "We're too magic for the Stereotypes. We are the Change." Furthermore, the movement acknowledges the power of language and storytelling in dismantling stereotypes that disproportionately impact the health services, care, and mentalities in underserved communities. Together, we can change the rhetoric and create magic! There is no box or label that can define us. #MentalHealthMatters #TheArtsMatter #Artivism!
We're too magic for the stereotypes.
We are the Change.

What is an Artivist?

An Artivist is an Artistic Activist! The Founder of

The #HugLife Project, Lacrisha Holcomb, has affectionately dubbed "activism through art" as being an Artivist! #Artivism:

“I have always considered myself to be an activist in raising consciousness. Whether it is in the streets, or tweets, or transcribed beats, I’m marching, protesting, fighting, awakening, enlightening, being. Throughout history, myriad forms of art have been imperative in shedding light, reflecting the times, and transforming minds. We are on the brink of many revolutions and evolutions in consciousness. This is my contribution. I am stepping into my calling as an Artivist now! An artistic activist! I love to read, I love to write, I love to share education, I love evoking emotion, I love art, and I am excitedly combining all of these passions.”

The #HugLife Project hopes to unite artivists from all over the country and world in using our voices (and arts!) to raise mental health awareness and decrease stereotypes and stigmatization. We hope those in need of mental health services and care will be encouraged to become more active in improving and maintaining their wellness through our artivism!
